Starting out
As I sit and type this, I am soon to push “go” on the biggest endeavour of my legal career to date - starting up on my own.
It’s been a long time coming, from when I returned to law in late 2005 (after leaving it “forever” in 1997), taking a short-term contract with a firm with the intention to prepare to set up my own practice, which turned into a fifteen-year stint ending in partnership, followed by directorship in another firm. Over this time I worked my way up from solicitor to equity director, and I learned a tremendous amount about the practice of law, delivering service to clients, leading a team, managing a firm and so on...
The thought of my own practice, however, never quite left me. But it also was never quite the right time. Until it was. And so here I am.
Those who know me know that I have a clear view on most things in life, and so it is the case now, with having my own firm. I am ready, and I have a clear vision for how I want to engage in this business.
I am blessed with exceptional clients, and working with them is true joy. I’m a hard worker and I am not afraid of the challenges and opportunities that will come my way.
But for now, as I push that “go” button on the scariest but most fun thing I have ever done I am thankful for everyone who has supported me, everyone I have learned something from (whether good or, well, challenging shall we say), and thankful that I have this time and this chance to do something exceptional.
Let’s go.
